Konnichiwa!
This week, starting from the end of April to early May, Japan celebrates her annual national holiday known as the ‘Golden Week’. Consisting of two weekends and multiple holidays such as Showa Day, Constitution Day, Greenery Day and Children’s Day lined up in a row, majority will enjoy long vacation time. Here in Singapore, we tend to have many guests from Japan during this week, which gives us the opportunity to share the efforts of JCC.
On Monday, 4th May we were happy to have Mr Taro Kimura (Special Advisor to Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe and Member of House of Representative) paying a courtesy call to Mr Sam Tan (Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth) in Singapore. The purpose for the visit during this auspicious year of SG50 was to strengthen and maintain bilateral relations between Japan and Singapore. In particular, an important aspect of the visit was when Mr Kimura and Mr Tan agreed upon that the next generation of youths is a valuable asset and treasure to the futures of the two countries.
Next year, Japan and Singapore will relish in the 50th year of diplomatic relations – SJ50. Both countries anticipate a joyous celebration to commemorate the momentous milestone and continue deepening ties through culture, sports and community engagement.
The triumphs of SG50 and SJ50 will certainly make us busier and we are most excited to have lots more to offer at JCC.
See you soon!
